In 1979, Japanese footballer Yasuhiko Okudera became the first Asian player to score in the European Cup, now known as the UEFA Champions League. Playing for 1. FC Köln, he scored in the first leg of the quarter-final against Nottingham Forest, helping his team to a 3-3 draw.
