1. FC Köln was the first German club that Yasuhiko Okudera played for. He joined the club in 1977, becoming the first Japanese player to play in the Bundesliga. Okudera quickly became a fan favorite, helping Köln win the Bundesliga title in 1978 and the DFB-Pokal in 1980. He left the club in 1980 to join Hertha BSC, but returned to Köln in 1983 and played there until 1986.
