Rituparno Ghosh was born on 31 August 1963 in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. He was an Indian Bengali film director, writer, actor and lyricist. Ghosh was known for his art house films, which often explored themes of gender, sexuality and relationships. He won the National Film Award for Best Director for four of his films: "Unishe April" (1994), "Charulata" (1998), "Dahan" (2001) and "Dosar" (2005).
