Answer
Florian Geyer was the 8th SS Cavalry Division, part of the Waffen-SS, the military wing of the Nazi Party's SS organization. Formed in July 1942, the division was transferred from France to fight on the Eastern Front in 1943. While the 8th SS Cavalry Division was initially unsuccessful in combat, it later distinguished itself in heavy fighting during the Battle of Kharkov and the Battle of Kursk.
