On 20 July 1944, during the attempted assassination of Adolf Hitler known as the 20 July Plot, Hermann Fegelein, the SS liaison officer to Hitler, remarkably survived a powerful bomb explosion that occurred at the Wolf's Lair, Hitler's military headquarters in East Prussia. Fegelein was in the conference room where the bomb detonated but miraculously escaped with only minor injuries.
