Yuri Oganessian, a Russian nuclear physicist, is still alive as of February 2023. He is best known for his work on the synthesis of superheavy elements, including the discovery of element 118, oganesson, in 2006. Oganessian is a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences. He has received numerous awards for his work, including the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2013.
