Hoolahan scored his first international goal against Poland. He scored a 28th-minute penalty in a 2–1 victory in a 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Aviva Stadium on 11 October 2013. Hoolahan had previously been called up for the senior team for a friendly against Croatia in September 2013 but was an unused substitute.
