Tirunesh Dibaba was 18 years old when she won her first individual track title at the IAAF World Athletics Cross Country Championships in the junior women's race in 2001, becoming the youngest ever winner of the junior race at the competition. Born on June 1, 1985, in Bekoji, Ethiopia, Tirunesh is the younger sister of fellow long-distance runner Derartu Tulu, the 1992 Olympic 10,000m champion.
