Rigoberta Menchú is a human rights activist from Guatemala. She was born in 1959 to a peasant family in the Quiché region of the country. Menchú became involved in social justice and human rights activism at a young age, and she has worked tirelessly to promote the rights of indigenous people and women in Guatemala. In 1992, she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her work.
