Peter Simon Pallas was a Prussian zoologist, botanist, and explorer. He was born in Berlin, Prussia, in 1741, and studied medicine at the University of Halle. In 1768, he was invited by Catherine the Great to join the Russian Academy of Sciences, and he spent the next 30 years exploring the Russian Empire, including Siberia and the Caspian Sea.
