The Chindits were a group of British and Indian soldiers who conducted long-range raids behind Japanese lines during the Second World War. Their last campaign, Operation Thursday, was launched in March 1944 with the aim of disrupting Japanese communications and supply lines in the area of Kohima and Imphal.
