Wingate's first operation in the Chindit Campaign showed the possibility of movement through the jungle, even under difficult conditions. Wingate's force of 3,000 men traveled 1,000 miles through the jungle, carrying all of their supplies with them. They were able to avoid detection by the Japanese, and they successfully attacked several Japanese positions.
