The answer: the murder of Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner, took place on December 9, 1981. Faulkner pulled over a vehicle with two Black men, one of whom was Mumia Abu-Jamal, a member of the Black Panther Party. A scuffle ensued and Faulkner was shot and killed. Abu-Jamal was convicted of the murder and sentenced to death, a sentence that has been the subject of much controversy.
