Answer
Mark Begich was a United States senator from Alaska from 2009 to 2015. He succeeded Ted Stevens, who had held the seat since 1968. Stevens was defeated in the 2008 election by Begich, after being indicted on corruption charges. Stevens was later convicted of seven felony counts and sentenced to five years in prison, but died before he could begin serving his sentence.
