Lisa Nowak was born in Washington, D.C. on May 24, 1963. She is an American astronaut and former Navy Captain who was the first woman to perform a spacewalk alone. She was also the first female commander of a space shuttle mission. Nowak has been involved in several controversies, including a 2007 incident in which she was arrested for attempted kidnapping and assault of another astronaut's romantic rival.
