Jon Kyl was born and raised in Nebraska. He was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on April 8, 1942. He was raised in a small town in Nebraska called Goodland. He attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he studied political science. After graduating from college, he worked as a lawyer in Arizona. He was elected to the United States Senate in 1986 and served until 2018.
