The Vichy government refers to the collaborationist regime of France during World War II. It was established in 1940 after the French defeat by Nazi Germany, and was led by Marshal Philippe Pétain. The Vichy government collaborated with the Nazis in a number of ways, including deporting Jews to concentration camps and helping the Nazis to control France.
