James Hutton was born on 3 July 1726 in Edinburgh, Scotland. He was a Scottish geologist and chemist who is considered to be the father of modern geology. His work on the formation of rocks and the Earth's crust led him to develop Theory of uniformitarianism, which states that the Earth's features are formed by the same processes that are still active today.
