Goran Ivanišević began his professional tennis career in 1991. He quickly rose to prominence, winning his first Grand Slam title at the 1992 French Open. He also reached the finals of the Wimbledon Championships in 1992 and 1994, but lost both times to Pete Sampras. Ivanišević finally won Wimbledon in 2001, defeating Patrick Rafter in the final. He retired from professional tennis in 2007.
