Georgius Agricola was born in Glauchau, Saxony, Germany on March 24, 1494. He was a German physician, natural philosopher, and mineralogist, and is considered the father of mineralogy. He is best known for his work De re metallica, which is considered the first modern textbook on mining and metallurgy.
