George Moore, an Irish novelist, spent the 1870s studying art in Paris. He lived in the Latin Quarter and became friends with other Irish writers and artists, including Oscar Wilde and J. M. Synge. He was also influenced by the French Symbolists, such as Stéphane Mallarmé and Paul Verlaine.
