Ernest Orlando Lawrence was an American physicist and Nobel laureate in Physics. He was born in Canton, South Dakota, USA, on August 8, 1901, and died in Palo Alto, California, USA, on August 27, 1958. Lawrence is best known for his work on the development of the cyclotron, a particle accelerator. He was also a co-founder of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
