Edgar Allen was appointed to the chair of anatomy at the University of Missouri in 1923. Allen had been a professor at the University of Michigan since 1914, and he was considered one of the leading anatomists in the United States. At Missouri, Allen established a strong research program in anatomy, and he also served as dean of the medical school from 1925 to 1932.
