In 2001, Brown ran against James Hahn for mayor of Los Angeles. Brown's campaign was based on his belief that Hahn was not doing enough to address the city's problems, such as homelessness and crime. Brown also criticized Hahn's handling of the Los Angeles riots of 1992. Brown ultimately lost the election to Hahn, but he did receive 46% of the vote.
