Lasting for seven months, the Prague Spring of 1968 was a period of political liberalization in Czechoslovakia. It began with the election of Alexander Dubček as First Secretary of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia and ended with the invasion of the country by Warsaw Pact troops on August 21, 1968.
