Battle of Maldon The Battle of Maldon was a serious Danish threat in 991. The battle was fought between the English and the Danes at Maldon, Essex. The English were led by Byrhtnoth, the ealdorman of Essex. The Danes were led by Olaf Tryggvason, the king of Norway. The English were defeated and Byrhtnoth was killed. The battle is described in the poem The Battle of Maldon.
